Thero Services has taken on a pivotal role in South Africa's Environmental landscape through their appointment by ESKOM for Environmental services: Hendrina Powerstation – Environmental Impact Study 


Thero Services was engaged to undertake an Environmental Impact study New Lower Dam and the Rehabilitation Plan for the Hendrina Power Station following an overflow incident of the Ash Dam Process Water Spillage on 15th of December 2022 until 16th of January 2023 into Boschmanskop dam.  


Boschmanskop dam is within the Klein Olifants sub-catchment of the Upper Olifants Catchment.  The station has a Water Use Licence with specific water variables for process water storage as well as the variables limits for the Catchment Water Quality Objectives.  Adjacent to Boschmanskop dam is Woest Alleen Spruit, both water bodies are surrounded by the mining and agricultural activities, including the above-mentioned power station.  


The station is sought a professional service to determine any actual or potential. environmental impact/s that might have been caused by the process water incident.  The assessment considered resources quality objectives of the catchment, Afterwhich a detailed report with the following as minimum: Comprehensive report indicating the source, path and receptor was prepared.  It further indicated the nature and the extent of any potential impacts and recommended rehabilitation method plan as well as maps indicating the location of the areas under study.
