Thero Services was appointed by Eskom to handle environmental services for various powerline construction projects in Limpopo and Mpumalanga as part of the Northern Grid Strengthening project. These projects encompassed a range of powerlines and substations Including:

  • Silimela Manogeng 400kV Overhead Transmission Line 

  • Tubatse Manogeng 400kV Overhead Line 

  • Manogeng Switching Station 

  • Tubatse Substation 


Thero Services assumed responsibility for overseeing a workforce exceeding 1000 individuals on-site as an Environmental Control Officer .  This involved conducting inductions, providing training sessions in compliance with the Environmental requirements of the project. Additionally, their mandate extended to managing the Environmental Control Officer (ECO) functions of the projects, including implementing conditions outlined in the Environmental Authorisation, Environmental Management Plan, and Project Environmental Permits and Approvals such as heritage Permits, Vegetation Permits, Access Documents. 


Thero Services' role also encompassed fulfilling Ecological functions essential to project compliance. This included managing the implementation of biodiversity offset programs, conducting vegetation assessments and management activities, and conducting environmental surveys. Through these multifaceted responsibilities, Thero Services played a crucial role in ensuring both the environmental integrity and operational efficiency of the power line construction projects.
