January 2017 - July 2022

Thero Services was appointed by the JDA to serve as the Occupational Health and Safety Agent for the construction and refurbishment of the Rea Vaya BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) Greater Gauteng Main Depot, accommodating 300 buses across Layover, Joint Operations Centre, Main Depot, and Administration Building. This project is a crucial component of the Greater Gauteng Transportation Master Plan, designed to stimulate economic activities and development nodes through improved transportation options, efficiency, and connectivity. The scope included the installation of essential services such as water, electricity, and sewage, as well as mechanical workshops, maintenance areas, and associated infrastructure.

The project was completed successfully within the defined scope of work, demonstrating exceptional safety performance throughout. We ensured that all contractors adhered to health and safety requirements, possessing the necessary competencies and resources for safe construction work. Additionally, we monitored the implementation of detailed, updated health and safety baseline risk assessments for all activities, aiding contractor compliance. Our submission included a comprehensive SHE Close Report, encompassing a health and safety environmental management file and legal assessment. This report summarized monthly performance and statistics, facilitating the efficient closure of the project.

The project exemplify the City of Joburg's commitment to fostering a robust, inclusive transport system. With 31% of the construction budget allocated to Small, Medium-sized, and Microenterprises (SMMEs), Thero Services not only generated employment opportunities but also bolstered local skills through the recruitment of labour. The depot prioritizes environmental sustainability, aligning with the City of Joburg’s Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) 2040 goals for a resilient, liveable urban environment. Despite challenges posed by COVID-19 and stringent protocols, Thero’s dedication to these objectives remains unwavering, albeit with some project delays.
