Thero Services was selected by Eskom to handle environmental services for various power line construction projects. These projects encompassed a range of power lines, including:
Juno Gromis 400kV
Ferrum-Niewenhoop 400kv
Impala Nseleni, Mtubatuba Nseleni 132kv
Kappa Sterrekus Section C 765kV
Kendal Zeus 400kV, Masa Ngwedi 400kV and 765kV Section A and B,
Silimela Manogeng 400kV
Among the tasks assigned to Thero Services were high-risk activities such as working at heights and managing operations involving large mobile trucks.
Moreover, Thero Services assumed responsibility for overseeing a workforce exceeding 1000 individuals on-site. This involved conducting inductions, providing training sessions, and facilitating toolbox talks to ensure compliance with the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) requirements of the project. Additionally, their mandate extended to managing the Environmental Control Officer (ECO) functions of the projects, including implementing conditions outlined in the Environmental Authorisation, Environmental Management Plan, and Record of Decision.
Thero Services' role also encompassed fulfilling Ecological functions essential to project compliance. This included managing the implementation of biodiversity offset programs, conducting vegetation assessments and management activities, and conducting environmental surveys. Through these multifaceted responsibilities, Thero Services played a crucial role in ensuring both the environmental integrity and operational efficiency of the powerline construction projects.
