The DEVAC Youth Summit held at the Soweto Theatre on October 20th, 2023, was a resounding success, attracting over 300 participants eager to engage with the theme of "Shaping the Future Leaders of Tomorrow." The Summit provided a dynamic platform for young minds to exchange ideas, explore opportunities, and empower themselves for the challenges ahead. The panel-based approach ensured a diverse range of perspectives, with Session 5 focusing on the crucial topic of "Considering Entrepreneurship and engaging in Freelancing Opportunities to cultivate income streams and sharpen own skill sets."
During Session 5, attendees had the privilege of hearing insights from esteemed speakers, including Olga Mlaudzi and Kondwani Kaonga from Thero Services, alongside three other distinguished professionals. Their discussion illuminated the pathways to entrepreneurship and freelancing, emphasizing the importance of cultivating diverse income streams and continually honing one's skill sets in today's rapidly evolving landscape. The panelists shared personal anecdotes, practical tips, and actionable strategies, inspiring the audience to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations with confidence and determination. Furthermore, this resonated deeply with the audience, offering valuable insights and practical advice for those looking to explore alternative career paths and embrace the gig economy.
Among the stakeholders present were key organizations and entities like the Gautrain Management Agency, Sasol, Transnet SOC Ltd, Zutari, and the City of Johannesburg, underscoring the significance of the Summit in fostering collaboration between the youth and industry leaders. In addition to the enriching panel sessions, the Summit featured interactive stalls outside, providing youth with opportunities to network, explore innovative ideas, and connect with organizations dedicated to supporting youth empowerment. Among these stalls was a dedicated stall hosted by Thero Services, offering valuable resources, mentorship opportunities, and insights into their own entrepreneurial journey which further enriched the experience and reinforced the message of empowerment and opportunity. The vibrant atmosphere fostered collaboration, creativity, and a sense of community, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended the DEVAC Youth Summit.
